Marshall Jefferson teams up with Steve Mac to keep the Sleezy D name alive with this new double-sided release on Nu Groove.

The legacy of Sleezy D—the late Chicago house enigma whose name became synonymous with raw, jacking grooves—gets a worthy continuation as Marshall Jefferson and Steve Mac team up for a fresh yet nostalgic release on Nu Groove. This marks Jefferson’s first Sleezy D outing in nearly a decade, and alongside Mac, he crafts a two-tracker that channels the unhinged energy of mid-’80s Chi-town hedonism while injecting a modern, heavyweight touch.

First up, “In The Night” delivers a relentless slice of classic Chicago jack. The drum programming is crisp and punchy, laced with a hypnotic bassline that feels tailor-made for dark, sweat-soaked rooms. A gnarly spoken-word vocal rides the groove, evoking that raw, no-nonsense club energy that defined the city’s original house sound. It’s stripped-back, effective, and oozing with attitude.

On the flip, “Wanna Get Down” cranks up the intensity, introducing a writhing TB-303 bassline that twists and mutates over pounding drum work. The vocal snippets are diced and scattered across the groove, pushing the track into full-on acid jack territory—wild, propulsive, and built for peak-time damage.

The package is rounded out with dub versions of both tracks, amplifying the percussive elements and further distilling their dancefloor potency. These stripped-back cuts feel heavier, emphasizing rhythmic tension while keeping the warehouse spirit fully intact.

With In The Night / Wanna Get Down, Jefferson and Mac strike a perfect balance between history and modern club functionality. It’s raw, jacking, and drenched in acid-tinged nostalgia—exactly what you’d hope for from a Sleezy D revival.

The ‘In The Night / Wanna Get Down’ release is out now here.
