Bobby Donny label head Frits Wentink returns to WOLF with another fine EP made up of four killer tracks.
Dutch deep house don Frits Wentink makes the kind of scratchy, warm analogue jams that sound thirty years old and fresh simultaneously. This release, his third in collaboration with London imprint Wolf Music, is typical of his textbook grooves. ‘I want it all’ starts with horn stabs before a sample opining about being together ushers in a booming, shuffling bassline.
‘About You’ is similar but opts for a trackier, heads-down vibe, with ‘Ambassador’ going even more profound, a haunting arpeggiated bassline delivering a moodier vibe. The pick of the four is the seductive grooves of ‘Idle Dancer’, with subtle tribal percussion nudging the track before some Rhodes chords give it an early Kerri Chandler vibe. All four were road-tested at Panorama Bar in April, resulting in an infamous shutter moment, but they will sound just as good on any other dance floor.
