Organic Chicago grooves from the new collaboration that is Late Nite City drops tomorrow by the way of the ‘Everybody’ EP.
Late Nite City is the new long-awaited alias by house producer and South Records boss George Smeddles, To The Rock label co-founder Danny Langan and multi-instrumentalist Josh Cutler. The first fruits of their labour, a Chicago- flavoured house track entitled ‘Everybody’ kicks off this new chapter in style. It’s also the debut release for their new label, Late Nites.
Born out of a shared love for early house sounds, Late Nite City first formed four years ago when George invited Josh to play keys on a track. Danny joined them, and their dynamic synergy soon fuelled them to get to work on a whole new project.
Inspired by a shared passion of music across a broad spectrum from soulful house, jazz, funk, garage to motown, the trio aims to bring back authenticity and character to modern dance music. “We’re not focused on what the charts sound like, or what’s hot on the radio. We’re just trying to put our version of the soul back into music,” says George.
Their first track, ‘Everybody’, drips with the essence of formational house music. It’s a dance floor anthem arriving bang on time for summer parties, delivering sizzling, swinging drums, punchy piano stabs, and seductive trumpet noodlings by the talented King Crowney. But no release would be complete without a dub! The ‘Get Down Dub’ is a nighttime-proof take on the original. It ramps up the tempo, amps up the drums and altogether takes the track in a more serious but nonetheless danceable direction.
For those unaware, George Smeddles has swiftly become a prominent name in modern house music. His breakout 2018 hit ‘Shake Your Body’ marked the beginning of his rise, followed by the chart-topping ‘Start The Party’ in 2019, leading to releases on the likes of Ultra and Solä. Josh Cutler is a silky smooth keyboardist, while Danny Langan is the head of the record label To The Rock and a brilliant house music producer in his own right.
Together creating a sound described by George as “vibrant” and “distinctive with a nod to their heroes” (think Kerri Chandler, MAW etc) fans can expect to hear a musically rich, true skool house sound fuelled by live instrumentation and original vocals with Late Nite City. The party’s only just starting – the group has a bunch of juicy unreleased music yet to surface, so be sure to keep one ear to the ground for more deep grooves.
