The ever consistent Andrés drops his second volume of cool, clever edits in true Detroit fashion.
A former Slum Village DJ, Detroit, Michigan’s Andrés also know as Dj Dez is a true veteran of the US scene. Whether it’s house, hip-hop, downtempo or breaks, Andrés is formidable behind any studio board. Brushing shoulders with the likes of J.Dilla, Theo Parrish and Moodymann, the Detroit musician who was raised in California in the 80’s has a back catalogue that includes many releases on Moodymann’s Mahogany Music but his standout track to this date is the 2012 anthem ‘New For U’ that was released on his own La Vida imprint.
In 2023 Dez released his ‘Edits’ series with two tracks that impressed many. Touching on Fleetwood Mac and Anita Baker classics, there was a clear indication from the heads that this was a series that needed a follow up. So, 2024 ‘Edits Vol.2’ is ready to land. First up is New Birth’s ‘I Can Understand It’ released in 71/72. This cool, punchy kick-led groove oozes soul and funk but will have floors swaying with the sheer coolness. Watch out for that bass line, proper bad ass. ‘Loleatta Disco Flip’ is next. Laid back disco grooves lead with chopped up Philly strings, low-slung bass lines and of course the wonderful vocal flip for Holloway’s ‘Dreamin’.
This is two tracks of magic, god we love well made edits! The ‘Edits Vol.2’ will be released April 26th , 2024. Pre order here.
