Be Strong Be Free is an imprint founded by Gratts and is dedicated to that mellow magic sound with some of the Belgian DJ & producers biggest influences over the years providing the flipside reworks.
Tristan Jong, aka Gratts, has been a prolific agent of the European electronic scene for over two decades, Belgium-born, and previously Berlin-based, Gratts now calls South Brighton, Adelaide, Australia home. After releasing records under various monikers, he released his first two Gratts outings in ‘21 & ’22. Brighter Future featured Robert Owens, which was later followed by his Music For The Moon Room Gecko EP. After more than 20 years of DJing, Gratts’ 2023 release ‘Sun Circles’ perfectly summed up where the Belgian is at – both in the studio and in the booth – soulful but subtle, Balearic but bumpin’. Gratts found himself on London’s WOLF Music also in 2023 with the simply stunning ‘Pretty Lights’ that featured the mighty Brandon Markell Holmes.
Here he returns to his own imprint with the third instalment of his Balearic but bumpin trilogy, delivering a captivating piece of organic, Body & Soul inspired deep house, assisted by vocalist Cata Mansikka-aho, who sang on one of Gratts‘ favourite Guidance Rec releases back in 1999 – Colors Of My Mind by Nuspirit Helsinki. Now, a quarter of a century later, the pair are releasing a record together.
‘Rhythm Of Love’ is set to be the defining moment in Gratts’ discography so far. It’s a well-crafted piece of music, with the original being a wonderfully deep and jazzy number reminding us of the New York Loft parties of the past, boosted up into the stratosphere by uplifting drum hits and dizzy disco elements for classy disco dancefloors. As on all Gratts releases, an instrumental is provided for maximum nightclub joy. On the flip British duo Faze Action up the energy levels with an equally musical disco version that hits in all the right places. It’s one pure and powerful disco weapon.
