Upcoming Chicago-based producer/DJ Avi Sic sits down with us to talk about her new release ‘Acid On My Tongue’ that’s out now.

Having firmly established herself as one of the most sought-after Producers and DJs on the Electronic Music scene, taking to the stage to support VIP acts like Calvin Harris, Diplo, and Kaskade, to name only a few, Avi Sic remains an undeniable talent when it comes to her ability to craft powerful productions and deliver unforgettable live shows.

Hello Avi Sic, how are you? Congratulations on the release of ‘Acid On My Tongue’!
Thanks, very exciting. It charted on Beatport and I landed my first Spotify editorial playlist – Nasty Bits – which I’m a regular listener of.
To start, can you tell us about the production process of this new track? Which elements did you focus on to create the overall sound you wanted to achieve?
This all started with a crazy synth lead that I created in Serum. I built everything around that lead. Drums, a bassline that was prominent but not too overwhelming. Vocals and odds and ends came last.
You welcomed the vocalist, KXNE into this new production. Can you tell us about how the collaboration came about and what the process was like?
I’ve been a fan of his for a while – he features on a song called ‘Shades On’ and also ‘Gucci Slides’ both by BRANDON. I love these songs. I knew he would be perfect for my vision. I wanted those UK Grime type rap vocals, so I hit him up on a DM, sent him my idea and he was down. It was a fast process which made this such a good experience. I sent him the lyrics that I had written for the hook, and he nailed it. He wrote a bonus verse that ended up in the final song too.
How would you say this new track stands out against your other releases?
It’s super high energy, fun and playful.
What about ‘Acid On My Tongue’ would you say exemplifies your signature sound?
The crazy synths, the thick leading basslines, and the weird nuances. Those are my favorite things to make so they shine through in my tracks.
The catchy hooks throughout the track add to the energetic vibes. Can you tell us about how you created these elements? How do you craft such infectious and hypnotic details within your soundscapes?
For the hook I started writing down rhymes that sounded super corny in an effort to be catchy. This track was so crazy and in another dimension the idea of an acid trip just kind of made sense.
What was your favorite part of the production process?
It was all a good time but probably the addition of the vocals.
‘Acid On My Tongue’ features bold and powerful basslines, creating a mighty-sounding low end within the track. Do you have any specific techniques or processes that you use to create these elements?
I layer my basses and use harmonics. Plus, I have a great engineer.
Did you face any challenges during the production or collaboration process that you had to work to overcome?
Because the instrumental is so busy – it was a bit of a challenge to place lyrics in the right spot. But it came together in the end. Had to cut a few other elements out.
What’s next for Avi Sic? Do you have any upcoming releases or live shows that you can share with us?
My last release of 2023 has just come out on Rock Bottom Records. It’s funkier and more Tech House forward so it was one I was excited for. Also, I have a second collaboration with my guy Valy Mo dropping on Curbi’s label – Seeing Is Believing – soon. Plus a few edits in between these. Most notably a Madonna remix that I’m stoked for. As always, tons of live shows as well. I’ll be playing support for Whipped Cream this month and have a show planned with Nostalgix in March.
With such a motivation to keep paving a unique way within Electronic Music, Avi Sic is no doubt a relentless force on the scene; unstoppable in her drive, there is no denying the success she has garnered to date comes as a credit to her passion and determination.
