The machine soul of Hilit Kolet arrives to Rekids this January in the form of ‘Hot Mess’ that is backed by a remix from Mike Dunn.
Classically trained musician , worked at the iconic Blackmarket Records and a powerhouse of a DJ, Hilit Kolet is destined to be a revered name in music. Carl Cox, Radio Slave, Tsha, Paul Woolford, Dennis Ferrer, Patrick Topping, Eliza Rose, Nicole Moudaber, Claude Von Stroke, Hector Romero, Yousef, Mele, Heléna Star, Syreeta, La La, Emerald, HoneyLuv, Demuir, Gideön, DJ Deep, Jovonn & Tiefschwarz are all names that have supported her music so far. Her edit of the classic ‘Crispy Bacon’ by Laurent Garnier is something else, and with more releases on Defected and Faith to name but a few, Kolet has a bright 2024 ahead of her.
This new release ‘Hot Mess’ is an instant ear worm. Programmed on a drum machine, there is a rugged, mechanic feel to the groove that is juxtaposed by the soulful yet powerful female vocal that reminded us of a cross between Grace Jones and Kelis. It’s a relentless groove, powered by perfectly placed strikes and warbling synth lines. Chicago legend Mike Dunn gets in on the remix. His deeply grooving sound takes the track to a different dance floor space, the bulbous bass lines, ethereal pads, staccato synth lines, all come together, each in their own unique space to really allow the track’s groove to spill out.
The ‘Hot Mess’ EP is out on Rekids from January 26th, 2024. Pre order here.
