The team behind the revered European festival announce a brand-new location – Portugal – for July 2024 and the next chapter.
SunceBeat was proudly one of the defining festivals of Croatia and took place over 14 glorious years, both in Petrcane and later Tisno. Nothing of course lasts forever and summer 2023 was the last edition and a memorable finish for all involved.
For Alex and Nick this was not the end of the SunceBeat story and they knew it would continue somewhere else in Europe. Their aim was to take SunceBeat back to its roots whilst creating a new direction for the iconic and revered festival. Now, the duo proudly announce SunceBeat New Horizons – a new location in a different country as a brand-new chapter begins. In summer 2024 the festival will take place close to one of the most vibrant cities in the world – Lisbon in Portugal – across the weekend of Thursday 18th – Sunday 21st July. Tickets go on sale 1pm Friday 1st December to all sign ups and then on general sale from 1pm Monday 4th December.
Centred around the beautiful sandy expanses of the Costa Da Caparica, the daytime action begins each day at the festival’s main base for the inaugural long weekend of magic under the sun and stars – this is the stunning Praia Irmao, or as the locals say: Place Of Happiness. It’s nestled amongst creamy yellow dunes and is a truly stunning location for a daytime party, a beach club renowned for its magical atmosphere found inside mesmerising surroundings. From here, the idyllic festival will continue into the early hours each night until heading to Magic Yard a few miles inland, an incredible mansion-like location with its own ballroom and outside chill out area in the orange grove and pool area, all open until 6am.
And it wouldn’t be SunceBeat without a boat party or two. The Principe Do Tejo will host a series boat parties up the wondrous estuary of the River Tagus and under the Golden Gate type suspension bridge, the Ponte 25 de Abril.
The lineup for SunceBeat New Horizons will be announced in January 2024.
Alex Lowes, SunceBeat’s co-founder, explains: “After many happy years in Croatia it was time for us to try something different and put Suncebeat on a new part of the map. We yearned to really go back to the roots of what SunceBeat has always been about – small, intimate, boutique shared with friends and family from all over the world. So even before we announced our last season in Croatia, Nick and I were looking for our new home. And over the last few months we’ve seen several locations, but as soon as we saw Praia Irmao we just knew this was the place to grow these roots again. Somewhere intimate and undiscovered, yet also somewhere which many people know of – Lisbon’s such a great city, after all – and have perhaps have never ventured too far outside of. This is a fantastic location and region which has all the ingredients for the perfect SunceBeat recipe. SunceBeat was always going to continue and we’re very happy to be able to reveal this news now. There’s still lots more to come, including our lineup being announced early next year.”
SunceBeat New Horizons will take place primarily in the Costa Da Caparica coastal area, a 15-20 minute drive from Lisbon. Praia Irmao has a panoramic beach for sublime sunsets, a lovely restaurant onsite and street food stalls will be added for the festival, along with SunceBeat’s wonderful attention to detail across all locations.
The fabled city of Lisbon is a foodie and culture paradise, a beautiful place to explore and fairly priced compared to other parts of Europe – its perfect to spend time in before or after the festival. Lisbon is serviced by many of Europe’s and the world’s airlines, so flight options will be plentiful from lots of destinations. The next chapter of SunceBeat is going to be special.
