With ‘Insatiable’, Thanksmate delivers a debut EP that’s both a homage and a statement—rooted in the rich soil of 90s house.
From the opening bars, it’s clear that ‘Insatiable’ isn’t here to chase trends. Instead, Thanksmate leans into a sound that evokes the timeless warmth of artists like Nick Holder and Chez Damier, while also embracing the dreamy, emotive atmospheres championed by contemporary selectors like Paramida and Alex Kassian.
Italian duo Fabio Agostini & Marco Palomba aka Thanksmate follow up their 2023 ‘Your Friend’ EP on Marvin & Guy’s It’s A Pleasure label with this mammoth six track EP ‘Insatiable’. The debut release on their Soul Express Records, this is a clear statement of intent from the Italians, one which we enjoyed thoroughly.
Over six tracks we are taken to the Acid House stylings of Detroit with nuances of the early euro house sounds. The title-track is a squelched 303 sound with fantastical retro vocals whilst ‘Acid Memories’ goes deep into that jackin’ acid sound with big lead melodies and bulbous bass lines. ‘Mimosa’ is a massive M1 synth-led peak timer thats a straight up ode to the 90’s house sound. ‘Breathin’ dips its toe into the early techno vibe underpinned by rave breakbeat drum arrangements. ‘Computer Machine’ is a stripped back, minimal house groove that reminded us of early Frankie Knuckles tracks like ‘Baby Wants To Ride’. ‘Cala Bassa’ closes the EP with a downtempo/Balearic sound that’s perfect for the chill out DJ’s amongst us.
The vinyl release of ‘Insatiable’ lands on May 2nd, 2025. Get it here.
