Luke Una’s E Soul Cultura readies a vinyl release of Persona RS’ ‘Tu Amor, a cover version of the Jamie Principle classic ‘Your Love’ that features Mamacita.
Originally released in 2012 by Chilean artist Sebastian Roman aka Persona RS and featuring the spine-tingling vocals of Carolina Vallejos aka Mamacita, ‘Tu Amor’ has laid hidden, unappreciated for over a decade. Of course, if cosmic, celestial, extramundane tracks are being searched for, there was a chance this man would find it. Step forward Mr Luke Una.
Of course the story isn’t as straight forward as that is it ever? Finding its way into the hands of the E Soul Cultura captain by the way of DJ and record digger Steve KIW who had heard Idjut Boys play the original in one of their heralded sets. The track was a success of some magnitude in the Chilean House scene and picked up by a few American DJ’s, but never really made it into the international circuit.
Listening to the Original Mix said to have been recorded on lo-fi equipment, including an old Windows laptop and a borrowed Neumann microphone, there is a curiosity about the track from the off. Of course many will be aghast at the thought of the classic ‘Your Love’ being touched but sometimes it’s nice to have an alternative in your bag.
‘Tu Amor’ keeps the blueprint to hand but adds a screwy, disordered feel with the synths almost taking on their own persona, fighting with the original for their right to be heard. Carolina’s vocal is heartbreaking, her Spanish accent achingly tender in tone, really delivers a standout sound. Be great to hear what Jamie thinks of this when he hears it. The iconic bass line is off kilter and organic in feel, and the lead synth just has moments of unaligned madness that just adds heaps of bewitchery to this latin unorthodox jewel.
For the first time the track is going to be available on vinyl with Luke Una offering up a club re-edit with another of our favourites, Classic Music Company head honcho Luke Solomon.
“There was a real charm to it, it was quite an unorthodox arrangement, a huge wonkiness and just sounded so DIY in a brilliant way. I was chatting to Luke (Solomon) about how much we loved it and we decided to re-edit it together. Accentuating the wonk of those crazy synths, we’ve extended it to make a fiercer underground club tool, without taking away that very charming cosmic feel”
