Bedouin bring their Middle Eastern heritage to Róisín Murphy’s 2007 track ‘Dear Miami’ via the evergreen Nervous Records.
The key in Rami Abousabe and Tamer Malki’s case being, their unwavering commitment to – and razor-sharp understanding of – the Bedouin sound and precisely what it is that makes it tick. Something in itself, which has been privy to its own kind of journey; maturing and evolving over time, with every interaction, experience and learning gleaned by the duo.
As, what we have here, in their re-rub of Róisín Murphy‘s ˙Dear Miami˙ – is, pure and simple – a rarefied morsel of utterly timeless, electronic music. It’s attire – elegant and evergreen – so to weather any storm, future fashions or zeitgeists might throw its way; whilst underneath the surface, cunningly – you’ll find there’s just enough rhythmical heat and club-minded dynamism at play – so to ensure its safe passage into the dance arena too.
But it’s in the palpable sense of confidence and surety the duo clearly share – with regards artistic vision and musical identity – where the rework’s true, enduring genius lies. As – no matter what their standing – for any remixer to up tools and strip things back quite as bare and elemental as the boys have here – we’re talking right down to the instrumental core, with Murphy’s bewitching vocals fully exposed – is striking as a bold, brazen and dice-rolling manoeuvre.
But that’s the thing – Bedouin aren’t just any remixer; and at no point, have the idea of dice, or the need to roll anything whatsoever – even entered their mind; as these two have always known exactly what they’re doing, and precisely why they’re doing it… a fact, incidentally, that you’ll find emblazoned quite emphatically, right the way across this out-and-out, spellbinder of a track.
Bedouin’s remix of ‘Dear Miami’ will be released on Nervous Records soon. Listen below.
