‘Spicy Sumac’ is a new organic house release that sees Sabo and Namito collaborate with Middle Eastern musician, Shamoun.
The three-way production also includes a remix from Silvano Del Gado who transforms the atmospheric original into a percussion-fuelled, Afro house track.
The release is out now via the Sol Selectas record label run by Sabo, which Namito has also frequented as one of the imprint’s most popular artists. Sabo releases most of his own music via Sol Selectas, and this collaborative project will be exciting news to fans of the organic house genre.
Sol Selectas is a pioneering source of high-quality organic house, but it’s also an eclectic imprint that expands into other genres ranging from downtempo to melodic house. Afro house has been becoming a more prominent part of the Sol Selectas sound, and Silvano Del Gado’s remix is perfect for anyone looking for that style.
Namito has also worked with other influential record labels such as Embassy One, Bar 25, Do Not Sit and Selador, but Sol Selectas is his main outlet for the organic house side of his sound.
“Spicy Sumac” has an upbeat melody played on a pungi or similar Middle Eastern flute instrument, and there are also live fills from a darbuka drum that add a human touch to the electronic percussion. The lurching bassline and atmospheric synth swells add to the flowing energy of this track. Silvano Del Gado’s Afro house remix adds in extra percussion, and makes sparse use of the pungi, but he lifts the tempo in order to swap the original’s deep atmosphere for more energy.
