Aussie house enthusiast DJ Swella drops the second of his ‘Swella EP’s’ on his own label Pleasure Trax.
Sultry, deep, visceral grooves, that’s what we think of when we think of Melbourne-based artist DJ Swella. Think Ron Trent, Kerri Chandler, Moodymann and that’s the sort of vibe to expect. The Australian-born producer/DJ has a lengthy history spinning at Australia’s premier clubs such as Revolver, The Breakfast Club, OneSixOne, Honkytonks, New Guernica, Glamorama, Lounge & Tramp in Melbourne, Chinese Laundry in Sydney, Family in Brisbane & Elsewhere on the Gold Coast. With a penchant for a variety of electronica sub genres, you know when you get Swella’s music, you’re in for a treat!
This new EP is the second offering on his newly launched Pleasure Trax label. ‘Let’s Love’ is a snaking deep groove that samples Marvin Gaye’s sultry tones. ‘Loyalty’ is a Chicago-esque looping House groove straight out of the book of many of his peers. ‘Something To Say’ is a more upbeat, head nodding affair with delayed Vox snippets, rich organ chords and punchy kicks. ‘A Favourite’ took us to a Moodymann soundscape instantly. Bulbous, rubbery bass tones, catchy conga lines and breathy, airy pads create this devilishly deep groove.
The ‘DJ Swella EP 2’ is out now on Pleasure Trax. Buy it here on digital, here for vinyl.
