Amsterdam’s Makèz have dropped four soulful, jazzy numbers that make up the ‘Balance’ EP on Jason Wilkins’ Adeen Records.
Makèz is known for their ability to smoothly blend the wide range of music that has always inspired them—soul, jazz, disco—with classic house sounds from the genre’s early days. Although respectively early in their career, their sound is entwined with classic House grooves, one being Chez Damier who the guys are lucky to be endorsed by. Although with releases on the likes of Heist Recordings and Let’s Play House, we’re positive this lads have what it takes to reach it to the top.
‘Do It’ is a super smooth House groove underpinned by 90’s sax riffs, glitched out synths and lush deep bass lines. ‘Close 2 Us’ drives with energy through it’s sparse but swinging percussive strikes juxtaposed by rhythmic hi hat arrangements. Evolving intergalactic synths, sharp key strikes and a wonderful soulful female ad lib make this one a proper pleasure seeker. ‘Beat Of Life’ is a solid percussive workout with an acid-tinged synth line. Legend Mr G offers a broken, jazzy feel dub of ‘Love You More’ to close the EP, the brass samples and vocal lines are perfect for the more music driven dance floors and home listeners.
