UKG pioneers Tuff Jam announce the much anticipated release of their iconic production back catalogue, arriving on streaming platforms from 1st March via BMG.
Tuff Jam aka Karl ‘Tuff Enuff’ Brown and Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont are British DJ, production and remixing duo and key figures in the birth of UKG. Rising to prominence in the early 1990s, they built significant followings as DJs in their own right on the emerging underground UK Garage scene. Combining forces in 1993, Tuff Jam was born and underground dance music would never be the same. A significant influence on the emerging UKG movement, the duo are frequently referred to as the Godfathers of UK Garage. Building a devoted following on London’s Kiss 100from 1997 until 2000, the pair were regarded as THE headline DJs of the scene for well over a decade.
Prolific and highly influential, Tuff Jam’s extensive back-catalogue spans a variety of independent labels, including their own Unda-Vybe Music imprint. Beloved by the underground and no stranger to a breakthrough track, anyone who has ever owned one of a number of genre-defining compilation albums will be familiar with their work. In addition to their own productions the pair are responsible for some of UKG’s most iconic remixes, including work for artists like Tina Moore, Usher, Ce Ce Peniston, Rosie Gaines, En Vogue, Doolally, Kristine Blonde, Kim English, Soul II Soul and Boyz II Men.
“It’s been 24 years since our last Tuff Jam release so I’m very excited that our back catalogue will finally be available on all streaming platforms for our supporters old & new to enjoy. Also very happy it’s being re-released with major label BMG who we feel mirrors our vision with this project”. (Matt Jam Lamont)
“The first ever digital release of the Tuff Jam productions catalogue is an exciting opportunity, and it’s great to be working with the team at BMG to make this happen in 2024. It’s also quite surreal to think it’s been over 20 years since the first Tuff Jam collaboration!” (Karl Tuff Enuff Brown)
With the sound of UKG as relevant as ever, a history lesson from the OGs is a very welcome and long awaited addition to the streaming oeuvre. The outrageously impressive selection of productions includes collabs with fellow dance music pioneers such as: Tuff Jam ft. Tyree Cooper ‘History Of House Music’, further features include Xavier on the iconic ‘Tumblin Down’, Q-Rius on ‘Let Me Tell You’ plus Tuff Jam solo rides the massive ‘Need Good Love’ and ‘Experience’. A pair that deserve their flowers and more, this is absolute ESSENTIAL gear for lovers of house, UKG or any of their multitude of sub genres.
