The powerhouse collaboration of mOat & Scuba lands on Will Saul’s imprint in February and features Timbaland collaborator Soshy’s vocals.
Since 2022, mOat have put out a string of releases featuring remixes from the likes of Âme, Gerd Janson, DJ Tennis & more. Comprising two established English producers from opposite ends of dance music, the project is a product of the pandemic, where isolation in the Balearics led to a new creative pairing and direction. Now, the shadowy duo enter the studio with Hotflush boss Scuba – following the recent release of his hardcore-inflected ‘Digital Underground’ mixtape – one of contemporary electronic music’s most vital figures as a label owner/A&R, promoter, podcaster and, of course, multigenre artist, also tapping French singer/songwriter Soshy for her original vocals on ‘Seamstress’.
Title track ‘Seamstress’ cuts deep. The clipped drums give off Mood II Swing energy while dusty early 20th-century string samples ride an undulating sine-wave bassline and a heady spoken word vocal from Soshy washes across the whole intoxicating affair. ‘Cee Parkin’ on the virtual flip provides a weighty counterpoint to ‘Seamstress’. A swaggering, robust rhythm track underpins a vocal, string-laden piano house cut that favours contemporary dancefloor punch over nostalgia.
mOat + Scuba ‘Seamstress’ drops via Aus Music on 11th January 2024, with the full EP dropping on 2nd February 2024. Pre order here.
