Ruff Stuff founder Flaze lands on Spanish label Esuoh this January with the ‘Midnight Feelings’ EP.
Italian DJ/producer Flaze is a veteran of the music scene. Dj’ing since the mid 90’s and later beginning his production career as one half of Ruff Stuff that released tracks on label like Silence In Metropolis, King Street Sounds, Cahoots and more. Now since 2021, Flaze has began his solo career and so far, we’re impressed. The ‘Brigade’ EP opened his account and this latest EP on Mallorca-based label Esuoh is another fine piece of grooving House music.
The EP opens up with ‘Inside Me’ which is a silky but chunky House groove with sub bass tones, delayed synth stabs and ethereal pad chords. Fat and bass-led, we love this already. The title-track next is a uptempo, uplifting organ-driven House track with a diva-led vocal and a 90’s synth sound throughout. ‘Off The Block’ is a deeper, meandering sound that delves deep with low-slung bass lines and tense high strings. Lovely 90’s sounding drum racks on offer here. ‘Straight Home’ is a complete amalgamation of different decades for us. Repetitive chopped up vocals dance over lit up synth chords and crunchy percussive hits. ‘Dark Side’ offers up a different side to Flaze’s sound. At first we thought it was a The Streets sample when the piano loop drops but alas it wasn’t and the track went on a total different tangent to what was expected. Dark, scuttling rhythms to journey through the night with moments of sunlight worship, poetic stuff!
