90’s Big Beat star Jon Carter returns alongside Steve Mac with a couple of eclectic dance tracks on Jack Said What.
Known for releases on iconic labels like Wall of Sound, playing at clubs like The Heavenly Social as well as being part of Monkey Mafia, Jon Carter was the quintessential example of that 90’s UK dance sound. The Essex-born DJ/producer took a step back from the music scene in the 2000’s through tinnitus, a period where we were lucky enough to see him perform at Ibiza super club Manumission. So we’re really happy to see him back on our office stereo, this time with another prolific UK producer Steve Mac.
The ‘Finish Him!!’ EP is set for release on Jack Said What, the label set up by Irvine Welsh, Steve Mac and Carl Loben. The title-track is a maddening 8-bit romp with nostalgic bleeps and blips underpinned by raw synth gnarls and pumping 4/4 drums. ‘Be Beautiful’ is a speaker-busting electro piece with cool spoken samples and thumping drum lines.
