An Englishman in Australia, Carlo Gambino returns to Clara Da Costa’s Jack’s House with the four track ‘The Dime’ EP.
Respected Midnight Social Recordings label head Carlo Gambino is a name synonymous with punchy, groove-laden House music. A veteran in the UK music scene before dropping anchor in the emerald city, Sydney in more recent years. Gambino and his uncorrupted vision of good electronic music has seen him release music on labels like Cinthie’s We_r House, Riva Starr’s Snatch! Records, Franck Roger’s ‘Real Tone’ and Jamie Jone’s ‘Hot Waves’.
Now as 2023 ends, Carlo returns to long-time friend Clara Da Costa‘s Ibiza-based and KOTT favourite; Jack’s House Recordings. Featured many times on our pages, Jack’s House is a staunch, bastion of real House music. Headed by its paladin Clara Da Costa, who herself has a history steeped in electronic music, heralding back to the early 90’s, the label has an unalterable ethos which is the quest for forward-thinking deep, minimal House music. As many have said before, it’s all about the groove! And for Jack’s House never has a truer word been spoke. They’ve released to date a slew of aces from the likes Alex Arnout, Terry Francis, Legit Trip and of course the Gambino.
‘The Dime’ EP opens with the title-track which is a low-slung deep groove driven by female rap chops, bubbling bass-lines that sit really deep in the mix and staccato synth warbles. ‘Catch 22’ is a deep-set cut that is typical of Gambino’s sound. Bulbous bass tones, chopped up vocals and off-kilter synths work their magic in this intricate journey. ‘Bounce With It’ is a gruff, stridulant sound that offers little variation but instead just nails a groove to the dance floor. ‘My Mind’ rounds off the EP with a more vocal-laden hook set on top of Gambino’s intricate drums and inchoate synths that sound squished and skewed.
‘The Dime’ EP continues on the affirmation of Jack’s House pursuit of quality and Carlo Gambino never lets any of us down.
